Staff and Freelance Journalist - 1997 to Present
I began my career after graduating from the SAIT Journalism program in 1997. After several years paying my dues at weekly rural news outlets, I moved on to city dailies, eventually moving onto the corporate side of news in developing internal newsletters for the oil and gas industry and entrepreneurial industry.
Extend Communications - 2003 to 2012
I've owned and run my own communications firms, with up to 15 staff, for over 20 years. Starting with a small community investment firm in 2003 with Extend Marketing, which we sold to an international firm in 2007. I honour the entrepreneurial spirit and embody it in my approach to communications.
Ceilidh Communications - 2005 to present
My freelance firm has worked with clients such as Marda Loop Business Improvement Area, Crescent Heights Business Improvement Area, University of Calgary, Calgary Marathon, Hayley Wickenheiser, WickFest, EnCana, AstraZeneca, DeliverGood, and others. I've done everything from crisis communication to daily newsletters.
Various Major Events - 2010 to 2024
From multi-million-dollar sporting events to transformational self-development conferences and grassroots community Easter egg hunts, my experience spans the spectrum of event production. I oversee every detail — from contracting vendors and managing logistics to crafting communications strategies and leading social media campaigns.
Community Programming - 2005 to present
Over the years, I've developed a specialty in implementing programs that incorporate various aspects of community engagement, including events, newsletters, social media profiles, and campaigns to engage my clients' stakeholders in whatever way they communicate. I'm as comfortable at a boardroom table as I am at a kitchen table.
Always and Forever
My favourite volunteer work is with seniors and friends with special needs to help them stay active, fulfilled, and connected to their community through work, activities, and personal time. However, putting my communications and event skills to use, I volunteer for and organize many community events such as hockey tournaments, etc.
